Abraham Lincoln was born Feb 12, 1809 in a Kentucky log cabin.He had less than a year of formal education in five different schools because his father kept moving in the midwest looking for work. The rest of education was on his own. As president he led the Union through the Civil War. Lincoln said, "The past is the cause of the present and the present will be the cause of the future." Americans have begun to commemorate the 200th anniversary of his birth in 2009. Many activites will be held to celebrate his heritage.
